Clutch by Adam Labeaux

Writer's picture: Elle LivelyElle Lively

Press hard on the pedal

Free the wheels

It’s a range of motion

It’s a change of gears

And I can see it spinning. But I don’t know who’s winning, or why I’m here

It’s a long way back from the river home

I know that I lingered too long

Now that I’m here I don’t want it no more

But I shoulda known

It’s built in our bones

Hold on to the rhythm

Hold on to the song

Hold on to the reason

You’d risk it all

Hold that light above me, so I might see who loved me, before I go

Time is all I am

Locked in place

I wish for patience

And I hope for grace

And I know there’s people who stand up and raise their hands to bear the weight

It’s a long way back from the river home

I know that I lingered too long

Now that I’m here I don’t want it no more

It’s a long way back from the river home

I know that I lingered too long

Now that I’m here I don’t want it no more

But I shoulda known

It’s built in our bones
