ADAM LABEAUX
Ann Arbor, Michigan
With more than three decades devoted to his craft, Adam Labeaux has established an indelible legacy within the Michigan music scene. His music is deeply rooted in folk, classic rock, funk, pop, and soul. “I’ve always gravitated towards balladeers and melody,” he says. “I’d rather hear somebody sing something sweet.”
Labeaux himself has an astonishing range and a voice as quick-tongued as it is rich with feeling. By turns playful and plaintive, triumphant and mournful, evocative and mercurial, sensual and restrained, Labeaux’s songs are full of melodic surprises. At every moment, he resists cliché, striving towards a relentless but upbeat authenticity in songs full of longing and hope.
2023 marks the 10th consecutive year Adam Labeaux has hosted Broken Branch, a summer series of live outdoor shows featuring acts like Djangophonique, Chirp, TJ Zindle of the Ragbirds, Grammy winner Madcat Ruth, Dick Siegel, Back Forty, and many more.
Labeaux also hosts Rocking for Stockings, a day-long charity show featuring multiple live acts, which is held annually at Witch’s Hat Brewing Company in South Lyon. The event typically raises over 1500 pairs of socks, which are donated to the Delonis Center in downtown Ann Arbor, MI.
Brave Face, Adam Labeaux’s fourth solo studio album, will be released June 3, 2023. The album traverses multiple genres while maintaining a unified, original sound. “I pulled together a group of really excellent multi-genre musicians,” Labeaux says. “I just kind of let everyone go. We felt each other out during the recording and developed the sound of each song together. After that,” he adds, “the songs knew what they wanted.”
John Bommarito, host of the podcast/playlist Acoustic Alternatives, had this to say about Brave Face: “With equal parts ‘the sounds of today’ and ‘the classic sounds of the 70’s & 80’s pop,’ Labeaux has a strong new release on his hands. [The album] had me feeling nostalgic for the radio I listened to as a kid.”
